GOURMET GREATNESS
Jewell & the Beanstalk is a charming one-stop shop for a haircut, some great coffee, and a tasty menu full of vegetarian options. The antique-filled eatery has a heart-warming feeling about it, and the food alone is worth the trip.

Jewell & the Beanstalk in Manchester, New Hampshire is a darling neighborhood spot with a salon in the back and an antique-filled eatery in the front. Mismatched wooden tables are surrounded by locally made art; jellies, cards, and vases for sale; and a huge marble counter displaying the day’s specials for breakfast and lunch. |

The organic coffee menu is imaginative, and the whole foods sandwiches offer vegetarian options. There are also pastries, pies, handmade truffles, and a black board list of daily specials. |

To begin, the texturally pleasing Beanstalk Salad mixed baby greens with pillows of chevre, pumpkin seeds, red peppers, and warm, tangy dressing. While the Veggie Sausage Brie Quiche carried distinct, agreeable flavors and a moist, eggy mass, the crust was barely existent and the ingredients rose to the top, leaving two inches of plain quiche underneath. |

For the main course, a very tasty Veggie Melt stuffed melted cheddar and a whole garden of crisp, fresh veggies like chickpeas, sprouts, broccoli, and peppers into a wheat wrap. Raising the bar on sandwich standards, the Roast Beef on Sourdough stacked sliced meat, melted horseradish cheddar, red onion, and two layers of whole grain mustard. |

Phantom finished with a slice of excellent Apple Raspberry Pie, ribboned with cinnamon coated fruit under brown sugar-almond crumble. An awesome Coffee Hawaiian sweetened with coconut milk and a chewy afterward of toasted coconut. |

Portions are great for a lunch, but might fall short for dinner. All sandwiches come with a side of chips. |

While the atmosphere was unbelievably homey, it was really the friendly servers, full of suggestions that made Phantom feel right at home. |

Not a single knick-knack was out of place, and everything was thoroughly dusted. Even the hair salon in the back was completely swept. |

Sandwiches cost a pretty penny at $7, and coffee drinks average $3. |

The shop is on Somerville Street in a suburban neighborhood of Manchester, New Hampshire. On street parking is not an issue. |
