The wait at China Pearl can be horrendous; the multi-level Chinatown favorite is cramped; and you often have to eat with strangers. But once you secure a seat, your sweet reward starts rolling in, literally. Dim sum is a Chinese brunch tradition in which bamboo steamers are stacked on wobbly carts and wheeled around the room. Dainty dumplings stuffed with shrimp make the rounds, along with BBQ pork buns, spring rolls, spare ribs, taro cakes, and sesame balls. Customers motion when they spot something they want, and the wonton worker make a little mark on the table’s running tally. Don’t sweat the translation; it’s hard to spend more than $10 per person.
