While many visitors of the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum enjoy works by Botticelli, Rembrandt, and Whistler, Phantom argues that the true masterpiece is the adjoining café. What better place to linger over a light summer lunch than a patio bound by a garden. Not only is sunshine an old customer, but the high walls block out the city bustle to protect the growing trees and the collection of birds that nest in them. The tiny café paints an inviting menu with strokes of creativity such as the Truffle and Artichoke Tartine, baked with Portobello mushrooms and Gruyere cheese. If warm banana bread pudding does not inspire, skip ahead to the museum’s Italian Renaissance collection.
